GCSE Reform 2015
GCSE Reform 2015 http://tinyurl.com/o6lm44l Out with the old and in with the new. From September 2015 new GCSEs will be taught in schools and colleges across England. Year 9 students who will be making their GCSE choices this year, will unearth a change to the mandatory subjects; English Language, English Literature, and Maths. With GCSE starters seeing a change to all subjects by September 2019. The maths GCSE will be more 'challenging' with emphasis on problem solving. It will be assessed wholly by exam, so the option of coursework to secure partial marks is no more. This could add an increased stress and pressure to students who do not perform well under examination. English Language GCSE will remain compulsory, with 20% of the final mark focussing purely on punctuation and grammar. Secondary school students will now have a choice in partaking in the English Literature GCSE, as this is no longer a compulsory subject. Unusually, grading will now be used on a scale of 9-1 opposed to A*-F. Assessment will be mainly by exam with the choice of only 2 tiers; Foundation and Higher. With GCSEs looking tougher than ever, it's time to study hard and boost your exam grades.
Adderall--this motivation drug is dangerous
Adderall--this 'motivation' drug is dangerous Brain scans show how Adderall can improve activityCredit: http://gameofroles.files.wordpress.com/ With finals just around the corner, students have even more to worry about: their final grades. And most majors require students to maintain a certain GPA to stay in their major, so its no wonder they will do anything to get ahead of the game. And that usually means through abusing stimulants, the infamous one being Adderall. Teens.drugabuse.org has a fact sheet on the most common stimulants (besides Adderall), including: Ridalin, Concentra and Dexedrine. It has a list of questions, such as What negative effects can be associated with stimulant abuse? and How do prescription stimulants affect the brain? It lists answers to these and many more questions. The appeal Why is Adderall so addictive? Scientists say that it produces a euphoria, similar to a high produced from drugs such as Cocaine. Mixing alcohol and Adderall is a dangerous combinationCredit: http://www.addictiontreatmentmagazine.com/ In addition, numerous stories featured from news sources, such as The Lantern at Ohio State, anonymous college students speak about how they use this blue pill for maintaining high energy during long periods of drinking. However, mixing alcohol and Adderall is a terrible decision. According to The Office of Drug and Alcohol Education at the University of Notre Dame, the stimulant can cause students to prolong use resulting in consuming unhealthy amounts of alcohol which has led to cases of alcohol poisoning. The warning signs that ones body provides when drinking to tell them theyve had too much essentially shut off. This is what leads to the alcohol poisoning mentioned above. Dangerous side effects According to drugs.com, Adderall is so powerful, it warns that using this medication improperly can cause death or serious side effects on the heart. Hotlines are useful if you need to speak to someone about drug dependencyCredit: http://freeaddictionhotline.com/ In addition, Livestrong.com reports that there are other serious ailments that can occur; such as contracting a urinary tract infection, developing anorexia and experiencing psychosis, a health condition which can cause depression, hostility, feelings of uselessness and paranoia. If you find yourself becoming drug dependent, dont hesitate to call the Treatment Referral Helpline (1-800-662-HELP), The Free Addiction hotline (877-259-5634), or talk to a trusted friend or family member. Remember, these people are tying to help you, not judge you. So listen to what they have to say. Youll thank yourself later for it.

How to recruit teachers who align with your school values and culture
How to recruit teachers who align with your school values and culture When it comes to recruiting teachers internationally, values and culture fit should be a significant factor in the decision-making process. At Teach Away, we continually stress the importance of hiring for culture and values and not only on the basis of qualifications and experience. Assessing a candidateâs potential cultural fit isnât quite the same as measuring up skills and experiences from a resume, though. To help you avoid making the wrong hire, here are three ways to recruit for culture and values fit: Articulate your culture. It may sound simple, but before you can hire effectively for cultural fit, you will first need to define and articulate your schoolâs culture and values. What are your schoolâs values? How would you describe the culture in a few sentences? If you are interviewing as a panel, make sure that everyone involved in the hiring process is on the same page in how they understand and communicate your schoolâs culture, mission and values. Share your culture. Once your schoolâs vision is defined, it should be clearly conveyed in all of your external communication channels, including your school website and any recruiting channels you use to source teaching candidates - especially your job postings. Make your schoolâs culture apparent from the first moment a candidate encounters an opportunity at your school and throughout the entire hiring process. By consistently projecting your schoolâs mission, values and culture across these crucial hiring touch points, youâll not only attract candidates with a sincere passion for the job, youâll also dissuade teachers who may not be the right fit for your school from applying, saving you precious time in reviewing and interviewing the wrong candidates. Whenever possible, give your shortlisted candidates the opportunity to meet with teachers currently working at your school. Be sure to solicit their feedback on the candidate to help you get a sense of whether they would fit into your schoolâs culture. Ask the right questions. A resume sums up a job candidateâs experience, but it takes an interview to truly gauge a candidateâs cultural fit. When interviewing, donât just assume that your gut instincts will give you enough information about whether a teaching candidate is likely to be a good fit at your school - these are frequently inaccurate. There are several quantifiable methods to help you establish a candidate's compatibility with your schoolâs culture, including personality tests. Adding a values section to your candidate assessment rubric is also critically important. Prior to the interview, take time to brainstorm behavioral interview questions. Identify the competencies related to your schoolâs core values and think carefully about the kind of answers that you want to elicit from your interviewees. During the interview, describe your schoolâs values in behavioral terms and ask candidates to provide situations where they have demonstrated these competencies in the past. Checking a candidateâs references is also a crucial step in the post-interview stage. Ask referees the same questions you would ask the candidate in order to judge their cultural fit. Teachers do their best work when theyâre happy with their work environment. While many international schools are skilled at recruiting candidates with the requisite skills and experience, they could also benefit from learning how to recruit for the right culture and values fit. By incorporating culture and values fit to your recruiting process, you will be able to hire teachers who can flourish in their new roles, are invested in the success of your school and are much more likely to remain with your school for the long term. We hope you found this helpful and we wish you the very best of luck with your candidate search this school year! Solving Radical Equations
Solving Radical Equations The meaning for the word radical is root. Radical equations is an equations which can contain constants, variables and radical included in them. Radicals can be simplified and solved. There are different mathematical operations that can be used to simplify and solve questions related to radicals. Two radicals can be added or subtracted if they have the same number or expression in the root, this makes them similar radicals to carry mathematical operations. Example 1: Simplify and find the answer for the given equation 102x + 52x 92x? Solution: The given question is on adding and subtracting radicals. This question contains the adding and subtracting the similar radical terms containing 2 with variable x. The first step of the question is solving for 10 2x + 5 2x = 15 2x Now subtract 9 2x from the earlier answer 15 2x. This makes 15 2x 9 2x = 6 2x Therefore simplifying the radicals gives 10 2 x + 5 2x 9 2x = 6 2x Hence solution = 62x. Example 2: Simplify find the answer for the given question 12 5x + 10 5x 35x? Solution: The given question is on adding and subtracting radicals. This question contains the adding and subtracting the similar radical terms containing 5 with variable x. The first step of the question is solving for 12 5x + 10 5x = 22 5x Now subtract 35x from the earlier answer 225x This makes 225x 35x = 195x. Therefore simplifying the radicals gives 125x + 105x 35x = 195x. Hence solution = 195x.

Acrylic paint has some unique properties which add to its appearance on the canvas. Before we dive into the pros and cons, the techniques and tools, and everything else you need to know about acrylic painting, letâs take a moment to see how the painting medium first came about.Acrylic paint was essentially first conceived sometime during the early part of the 20th century by German chemist and entrepreneur Otto Röhm, when he first stumbled across acrylic resin. It wasnât until the 1950s that it first became available to the general public though. This resin has a wide variety of properties, such as fantastic water resistance, and it is incredible durability when solid, which makes it the perfect ingredient for paint.Acrylic paint first came to artistsâ attention due to its great versatility when compared with oil or watercolour paints, and as such it went on to become a staple of many a painterâs repertoire. With acrylic paint one can achieve a variety of effects simply by addi ng water, or mixing up the mediums used with the paint. This made the process of painting and mixing up styles much more accessible and easier than was the case before the invention of acrylic paint, when painters had to go through the hassle of mixing their own paints. For this reason and others, acrylic paint is often the preferred option for model enthusiasts. So if youâre looking to get into the world of model painting, youâll probably need to become familiar with acrylic paint.Types of Acrylic PaintAcrylic paint can be purchased in two grades, professional and student. The professional grade paint, as the name suggests, is designed to be used by artists well-versed in the medium, and those who desire the most potential for creativity in terms of how they can manipulate the paint. While the student grade acrylic paint is meant for anyone new to the paint, or those working on a budget since its more affordable than its professional counterpart.Grade aside, there are also a wide variety of acrylic paints which can all achieve different styles and end products. Craft acrylics - The preferred paint for model painting. This is because craft acrylic paint is versatile and can be used on a variety of surfaces such as wood and ceramics. Interactive acrylics - Best for artists seeking to modify their work as they go along. Interactive acrylic paint grants the artist more scope to alter their painting by delaying the drying process when necessary. Open acrylics â" Designed to extend the time it takes acrylic paint to dry, open acrylics are for those projects which require longer drying time, giving it a characteristic of oil painting. Iridescent acrylics - An extravagant option to give art an extra splash of colour, iridescent acrylics will create a glowing effect to really catch the eye.Exterior acrylics â" The last noteworthy type of acrylic paint that may interest you, is exterior acrylics. Much like craft acrylics, these paints will serve you well on a v ariety of surfaces, plus they are highly water resistant making them ideal for outdoor use. Acrylic paint tends to come in tubes, similar to oil paint, but unlike oil paint, it dries very quickly. As a result, it is a great paint to start out with, as y ou wonât need to wait a long time for it to dry.Another reason why you might consider painting with acrylic over oil paints is how easy it can be cleaned up after use. The last thing you want as a beginner painter is to have to spend half the afternoon cleaning up after yourself, and literally waiting for paint to dry.Painting with acrylics is also much more appealing in the sense that you can clean up after yourself using plain old tap water, rather than having to rely on foul-smelling chemicals to wipe off your brush as you would with oil paints. Not to discredit oil painting too much, but acrylic painting can also be made to look like oil painting, or even watercolour, with a bit of practice. Since you can dilute it with water, you are able to achieve a variety of techniques and visuals, which make it highly versatile.Of course, there are some drawbacks too, but these shouldnât dissuade you from starting out with acrylic paint. The main downside is that there are fewer colours to choose from compared to oil paints, and the quick drying time might affect how you paint.Beginner Acrylic Painting Supplies Your work space doesnât have to look like this. Keep it simple. Now that you have a better idea of the nature of acrylic paint, and the characteristics to bear in mind when starting out with it, letâs take a look at the essential beginner supplies which will get you started on the right foot. While you may already know some of the basics required to kickstart a new painting hobby, like a brush or canvas to paint on, there are some other supplies you may be less familiar with. Painting for beginners requires some of the more obvious painting supplies, but also some less well-known ones.BrushFirst things first, a brush should be your number one priority if youâre looking to get into acrylic painting. With a whole host of options available, it can be pretty intimidating to attempt to make the right choice first time. However, with just a couple of brushes on hand, you can express your creative side in many ways. As a general rule of thumb, youâll want a hog hair brush with stiff br istles for heavier painting, and a lighter brush like a small round one to add finer details or effects like watercolour. One thing to keep in mind when using acrylic paints is to maintain your brushes well, that is to say, wash them thoroughly after each use as this type of paint can be tough on bristles.CanvasOf course, once you have your paint and brushes, youâre going to want a medium to paint onto. A canvas is a great place to start, and the best option for a beginner starting out is a pre-prepared canvas, whichâll be ready to use from the start.Cotton duck is one of the best materials for a canvas, due to its affordability and availability. While you could opt for the higher quality of linen, youâll probably want to start out with something a little more reasonably priced, especially if youâre just trying the hobby out.PaletteThe last obvious item on your acrylic painting shopping list should be a good palette. Youâve seen those photos of famous painters with a brush in one hand and a palette in the other, so its obviously worth the investment. However, before you run out and buy the first one you find, itâs worth bearing in mind the quick-dry nature of acrylic paint. This characteristic means that both plastic and wooden palettes wonât serve you as well as stay-wet palettes which have been developed specifically for working with acrylic paint. You could even get your hands on a few disposable palettes, which are the best option for dabbling with acrylic painting.Jar of WaterSomething you may or may not have considered when taking up acrylic painting, is the need for a jar or cup of water at your work station at all times. This is necessary because youâll need to keep the brush and paint wet, due to the quick-dry nature of acrylic paint.Cleaning SoapAnother supply thatâs easy to overlook is soap to clean your brushes. Special soaps are available for use specifically with paintbrushes. These will keep the bristles at their best and help to maintain the brushes no matter how often you use them.Best Acrylic Painting Courses Get comfortable and study from home. Finally, to give you some direction with your first foray into the world of acrylic painting, weâre going to recommend some great tutorials, courses, and classes out there. 5 Things You Need to Know Before Taking Metal Guitar Lessons
5 Things You Need to Know Before Taking Metal Guitar Lessons Megan L. Before you start your metal guitar lessons, be sure to take this advice from guitar teacher Zachary A. Taking metal guitar lessons at first can seem rather challenging, but learning to play metal guitar really isnt as a daunting of a task as it may seem. As you continue to read, I will go over few different tips and practices that would be beneficial to know before embarking on your epic journey in learning how to play metal. 1) Finding the way that you learn the best, and sticking to it There is a multitude of different methods to learning how to play metal guitar, and the guitar in general. Find the way that you learn the best, and stick to it. It might take you a few attempts at various methods of practice to achieve this, but it will be extremely worth it. Its important to find the right method that works for you, because when youre trying to learn from a way that doesnât fit you just right, you might end up getting frustrated and discouraged, which might eventually lead you to give up and lose interest. 2) Practice makes perfect In order to get truly good at anything especially a musical instrument it requires practice and a dedication to practicing. You should set aside a certain amount of time that works with your schedule to practice daily what you learn while taking metal guitar lessons. There might be a lot of distractions around you that might interfere with this. (In my case, this would be the television or a good book.) But, you need to shut off all the distractions: turn off the television, put away your cell phone, stop watching silly YouTube videos of cats (no matter how entertaining they are) and practice guitar. It truly is the only way that you will progress as a musician. Everyone seems to want to become a virtuoso musician over night, and, well, this never happens. People who put in more hours of practice than anyone else are the ones who become virtuoso musicians. Its a proven fact. History is the evidence. 3) Listen to the masters Listen to the virtuoso guitar players of the metal guitar like Sinister Gates, Dimebag Darrell, Dave Mustaine, Steve Vai, and saving the best for last Randy Rhodes. You can learn so much from just absorbing all the music that they play. Also, developing an ear for the notes is a priority for successful musicians. Some lucky people have what they call perfect pitch. For the rest of us, myself included, its important to listen and play the song you want to learn again and again. This musicianâs ear youll develop comes in handy all the time, even when reading tabs; because tabs arenât always accurate, and youll have the ability to notice when the notes are incorrect. 4) Donât limit yourself to only metal music All genres of music are beneficial to you. With a broad knowledge of music, you improve your range, capabilities and diversity as a musician. Every musician out there has had influences that have helped shaped the way that he or she plays. So, even if there are musicians out there that you enjoy and would like to play like, donât limit yourself to only studying their music. Do some research, and look up who they listened to and who influenced them when they were starting out learning the guitar. Listen to their influences; you should be able to find similarities in their influences with the guitarist that you are aspiring to be. 5) Set Goals!! This is crucial for motivation. Everyone likes success, and when you set goals, you have those times when you achieve success by reaching those goals. Through this success you make progress. To me, there is no perfection, only progress. These five things are just a few helpful hints that will be a great stepping stone to achieve progress at becoming a metal guitarist. Have fun and rock on! Zachary A. is a guitar instructor in Katy, TX specializing in beginning and intermediate students. He is currently earning a degree in music theory.
